Acceptability of a child with autism, an event in relation to WAAD

Dear Members,

In relation with the World Autism Awareness day on April 2nd , 2009, Irum Rizwan has organized an event for all our members in Karachi. Celebrating WAAD is one of the ways to spread more awareness about autism so that children with autism are better accepted in the society and they are given their rights of education,learning and integrating in the society.The focus of this event is also on how parents can be adovocates for their children.
Irum Rizwan, co-ordinates all the activities if ARC Karachi and her commitment and dedication to this cause is known to everyone. She is a very rare combination of knowedge and willingness to help and educate. She is trained in TEACCH and has invaluable experience of working with her own child and with many other families.It is a great opportunity for parents to meet and learn from her experiences and also from each other. Natasha Abdul, one of our very enthusiastic and eager member is facilitating Irum with this event.Natasha is trained in Son- rise program and also has experience of working with her brother.She is always ready to help us in any way she can,which is very appreciated.

It is really encouraging that parents now have opportunities to learn and educate themselves from the right resources. All the activities of ARC and this group are geared towards parent empowerment so that they can help their children and planning of this event is also part of that effort.

As I always say,its only participation from members that makes any event successful and any effort worth doing. So please attend this event and try to encourag eyour children's teachers also to attend and learn.

I wish all of you all the best. I hope to see active participation from members so that such events can be regularly organized. And remember your child is important and you have to make the world see that fact.So start working on it..............

3.45pm to 4.30................An activity to reinforce the importance of our topic........Planned by Natasha Abdul
4.30 pm to 5.00..........A short film on intervention tips for autistic kids.

We close our gates at 3.30 pm no entrance after this time.
