"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away." -- Henry David Thoreau. We believe that Autism is a way of being that should not be "cured" or eradicated. This doesn't mean we don't believe in interventions or in supporting our kids in the best way we can. What it does mean is that we are not trying to change their core being or mold them to fit some societal ideal. W …

The Autistic Self Advocacy Network seeks to advance the principles of the disability rights movement with regard to autism. Drawing on the principles of the cross-disability community, ASAN seeks to organize the community of Autistic adults and youth to have our voices heard in the national conversation about us. The privacy is turned on on this group to protect our kids, not to keep people out. Please feel welcome to join us. This group is for verbal Autistics born in the 1990s. Currently, that means 10 -20 year olds, so I expect it will be mostly parents who will do the actual signing up and chauffering. Events will be created with Autistic tendencies in mind. Hopefully, this will allow the kids to relax, have some fun, and maybe make some friends.

The Square Pegs Social Club is a place for those of us who don't conform to get to know one another and make new friends without having to explain our eccentricities.
